STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway
Fire Fly Avenue, Swindon
The arrival of the steam engine in the early part of the nineteenth century had a huge impact up and down the country, and no more so than in Swindon.
STEAM - The Museum of the Great Western Railway celebrates the impact Isambard Kingdom Brunel had on Swindon with interactive exhibits, rare GWR memorabilia, imaginative story-telling displays, not to mention a wide variety of locomotives and rolling stock (many of which can be boarded!)
This fantastic museum also regularly plays host to travelling exhibitions, and is currently home to the Railway at War exhibition which looks at the role of the GWR and its employees during WW1.
And when you've finished exploring, the Platform One Café located just off the main reception is just the ticket to unwind with a well earned snack or meal.
