Town take home their first piece of silverware from Wiltshire Shield final
Swindon scraped to a 2-1 victory in the final of the Wiltshire Premier Shield at Hunts Copse tonight.
Despite fielding a strong looking side, with a number of the first team squad involved, Town made hard work against their non-league opponents. Swindon took the lead just after the hour mark when West Ham loanee released Lloyd Macklin who slotted the ball passed Matty Bulman in the Marine goal. However, the hosts were back on level terms just minutes later when Nick Stanley drilled home past a helpless Phil Smith from just inside the box. The tie was settled when Billy Bodin was brought down in the area, leaving the ref will little choice other than to point to the spot. The crafty frontman picked himself up to brush in the resulting penalty and hand his team the title. |
