This morning saw the completed signing of teenage defender Ben Tozer to Newcastle United.

After talks with the Toons over the past weeks, pen was finally put to paper signing an undisclosed deal.

The 17-year-old will leave Swindon Town to go to Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year deal believed to be worth in excess of £1 million pounds.

After a string of impressive performances for Town, Tozer had attracted considerable interest from a number of Premiership clubs including Everton and Tottenham.

"I wish the lad every success," said Swindon caretaker manager Dave Byrne, "he has the talent to go to the very top of the game."

Ben Tozer is set to leave the County Ground in a £1.1 million deal with Newcastle United.

The talented 17-year-old is negotiating personal terms today, and could be stepping out of the County Ground on the same day that Fitton steps in.

A deal with St. James' Park is expected to see an initial £250,000 in the Town's pockets, at a time when cash flow is much needed.

Takeover news

As for the long-awaited takeover, the deal is expected to be completed in the next few hours, despite the fact that Fitton is currently holidaying with his family in Austria.

Fitton sent a text message this morning, confirming the deal is on track.
