Swindon sealed their place in the draw for the second round of the F.A. Cup - after defeating Wycombe 2-1 at Adams Park.

Town's record in cup competitions against Wycombe in recent years leave little to be desired, but Paul Sturrock's men battled to earn a desperately needed win.

The away fans had to wait until just past the hour mark for the opener when substitute Christian Roberts fired home from close range - the Welshman doing his chances of recall to the starting line-up the world of good.

Town's second came just minutes later when another substitute Billy Paynter found the top corner of the net, following some good work from Barry Corr, the big Irishman making his first start since returning from injury.

Wycombe made it a nervy final minutes for the visitors when Matt Bloomfield latched onto a poor defensive header from Sofienne Zaaboub, but Town held on to book their spot in the next round.

The win will no doubt give the players and fans some much needed confidence as they look forward to the much anticipated trip to Leeds next Saturday.

LATEST: Town have been drawn at home in the second round against either Forest Green or Rotherham.
