Tuesday 09 October 2007

Another much changed Swindon side were dumped out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy by local rivals Cheltenham.

The disappointing loss was followed by a mass protest after the game as fans vented their anger at the current board, demanding answers about the proposed take-over and the future of the club.

A very poor and out of shape looking Swindon found themselves 2-0 down inside the first half hour, following goals from Jennison Myrie-Williams and Craig Reid - a scoreline the visitors held onto going into the break.

Town came out in the second half and showed a bit more purpose and quality, and got back into the game just before the hour mark when Blair Sturrock squeezed the ball under Shane Higgs.

The goal was followed by a period of sustained pressure from the home side, as they looked to push on for the equaliser. However, Cheltenham killed off the game when Ben Tozer put the ball into his own net with twenty minutes left.

Paul Sturrock tried to re-ignite his wilting team with the introduction of Christian Roberts and the lively Simon Cox, but despite their best efforts it was to no avail.

The final whistle was greeted with a chorus of 'Booooos' from the home fans, who made their feelings known outside the back of the Arkell's Stand. The understandably disgruntled crowd chanting 'Sack the Board' and 'Where's the money gone'.

Hopefully over the next few days some of their questions will be answered as to the immediate survival and the long-term safety of the club.
