Swindon Town 1 Crewe Alexandra 1

Town left frustrated by lack of firepower

Coca-Cola League One

Saturday 01 September 2007

RESULT: Swindon Town 1 Crewe 1

Town scorer: M Pook 24
Crewe scorer: S Schumacher 41

Despite taking the lead again, Swindon were unable to hold on for the win, but maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

A game that on paper looked like a real test, Town were by far the more dominant side, and Crewe will be delighted to head back home with a point in the bag.

Early pressure

In the first 20 minutes Town played some good football, and went ahead when Michael Pook smashed the ball beyond the Crewe keeper after 24 minutes.

Swindon were looking like heading into the interval with the advantage, but Crewe levelled when Steven Schumacher volleyed home an impressive equaliser just before half-time.

The second-half was a very frustrating one for the home fans as the Town players appeared very lethargic, squandering a number of good opportunities.

Despite bringing on all three of his substitutes, Sturrock’s men were unable to find the breakthrough that would have pushed them back into the play-off places.

Town’s next game will be live in front of the Sky cameras, against local rivals Yeovil.
