But a much-changed Swindon side equalised through an audacious over-head kick from Ibon Arrieta, and the home side secured the half-time lead when new boy Simon Cox slotted home for his first goal in a Town shirt.
Swindon wrapped up the tie when Chris Blackburn powered home debutante Jon-Paul McGovern's corner, just past the hour mark.

The same combination put the icing on the cake, with 10 minutes to go, as Town eased into the next round.
Although it seems Paul Sturrock is using the competition to look at some younger faces, Town fans will be delighted if it could result in a trip to Wembley next April, and the chance of some long awaited silverware.
