Sheffield Utd 2 Swindon 0
SkyBet League One
RESULT: Sheffield United 2 Swindon Town 0
Sheffield scorer: Murphy 73, 90
Swindon Town slipped to third following a two-goal defeat at Bramall Lane.
In truth it was a game that Town really should have taken at least a point from, but a string of missed opportunities were to leave Town manager Mark Cooper scratching his head.
Jon Obika and Louis Thompson both had great chances to take the game by the scruff of the neck in a scrappy first half, but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing were to be Swindon's undoing.
And despite playing 90 minutes of football against Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, it was Sheffield Utd who looked most likely to break the deadlock in the latter stages.
It was little surprise then when forward Jamie Murphy put The Blades in front with a deft little chip that Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham will perhaps feel a little disappointed not to have saved.
Town's misery was then compounded in injury time, with Murphy breaking over the halfway line and confidently chipping into the net.
A frustrated Mark Cooper commented: "We can’t create those chances and that amount of opportunities and not score and expect to win.
"Frustrating is the word - on another day, we could be three or four up at half time"
