On a weekend of comparatively few FA Cup shocks, the biggest surprise was unfolding in League One.
After being dumped out of the prestigious trophy by Rochdale in the first round, Town welcomed top-six prospects Southend to the County Ground - and the onlooking eyes of former Spurs & Villa boss Tim Sherwood as guest of close friend Lee Power.
But things couldn't have looked any worse from the Arkell's stand after some gob-smackingly casual play from the Town back line.
Vigouroux, Branco and Kasim somehow conspired to gift possession to Tyrone Barnett, who made the trio pay with a clinical right-footed strike from the edge of the box.
Minutes later the lead was doubled - this time Adam Thompson rising high to head home a floated freekick with Vigouroux rooted to his line.
But just as the smiling Southend manager, Phil Brown, was contemplating his half time cup of tea, Town hit back with a quick-fire double!
Ajose and Obika stunned the travelling Shrimpers support with two close range finishes.
Cool finishing
Confidence was now flowing back through the veins of the Robins players, and despite further Southend pressure - the ruthlessness of the Town counter-attacking play came to the fore.
Obika and Ajose were once again the tormenters finishing off two superb counter-attacking moves.
Caretaker manager Luke Williams later commented: "After about 20 mins I was dreading this press conference but the way the game finished, we've got a lot of positives come out of it.
"There are a lot of young players there and they stuck to what they’ve been asked to do and that’s what it was down to: belief from the players."
Swindon stay 16th.
