Scunthorpe 4 Swindon 1League One
RESULT: Scunthorpe United 4 Swindon Town 1
Scunthorpe scorers: Madden 15, 45+1, Holmes 21, van Veen 43
Swindon scorer: Thompson 52
The rest of the world might be waiting until the 31st, but Halloween came early for Swindon Town fans this afternoon as a first-half horror show left the Robins in the bottom four at full-time.
Although the Reds improved immeasurably after the break, the damage was done in the first 45 minutes with a series of shoddy defensive blunders leaving them four goals down and the game effectively over.
Captain Nathan Thompson headed home on 52 minutes, but it was little more than a consolation for the Robins, who now head to non-league Eastleigh in the FA Cup for what could be further embarrassment live on the BBC.
"The group buckled under pressure, confidence is not there and it showed," manager Luke Williams admitted.
“I said at half-time that the game is done, you’ve lost the game so now play, stop thinking about the consequences, stop worrying, try to play football like you played football when you first ever touched a ball and to compete like men."
