A dream of a cup comes crashing down
Johnston Paint Trophy
RESULT: Brighton 2 Swindon Town 0 Brighton scorers: N Forester (24) Pen, D Livermore (75)
Swindon’s Wembley dreams were once again shattered at the notoriously unhappy stomping ground of the Withdean stadium in Brighton.
Having suffered play-off heartbreak there in 2005, Town’s 2008 League Trophy aspirations ended with a disappointing 2-0 defeat. Following Saturday’s embarrassing loss in Histon, Maurice Malpas’ players did put a much better display, but was all to no avail. Nicky Forester penalty and David Livermore’s strike was enough to send the Seagulls into the semi-finals where they face a trip to League Two Shrewsbury. The town boss now has 3 days to get his troops ready to their vitally important clash against table topping Leicester as they look to continue their recently resurgent league form.
NEXT GAME: Leicester City (h) Saturday 15 November 2008, 3.00pm Coca-Cola League One |
