Despite an encouraging performance Town slipped to their third defeat in the last four league games - and piled the pressure on manager Maurice Malpas ahead of two home games in five days next week.

Town dominated for much of the first-half but found themselves behind at the break to an Alex Revell header.

Southend old boy Billy Paynter got his side back on level terms on the hour mark with a well taken finish.

 

However, substitute Francis Laurent broke Town hearts with the winner 15 minutes from time.

The defeat leaves Swindon perilously close to the drop zone and in desperate need of a victory on Tuesday night against Northampton.
