We interview the town manager after Town's first win in two and a half months...

Relief as Cox and Paynter end Town home jinx

Coca-Cola League One

RESULT: Swindon 2 Northampton 1

Town scorers: Paynter 48, Cox 61
Northampton scorer: Coke 90+3

The relief around the County Ground was palpable after Town ended a run of five consecutive home defeats tonight.

Top scorers Paynter and Cox the men responsible for giving Maurice Malpas a win he so desperately needed. The manager clearly relieved at the final whistle.

"We've been heavily criticised and we've bounced back," he told SwindonWebTV, "and I'm proud of my players tonight."

"The result was everything and we achieved it. And there's a lot of positives to take in to Saturday from this."

Simon Cox scores the second for Swindon Town
Eighth of the season:
Simon Cox wheels away after making it 2-0

The only blemish on the night being Town's lack of a clean sheet once again.

The porous Swindon defence conceding in the third minute of extra time when Giles Cox headed home for the visitors.

A goal thankfully too late under the circumstances after first Billy Paynter, then Simon Cox, eased the nerves for Town fans after a tense first forty-five minutes.

The win lifts Town up to 18th.
