Swindon Town 3 Plymouth 0

Sturrock no show leave fans disappointed

LATEST RESULT:
Swindon Town 3 Plymouth 0

Swindon scorers: Ben Joyce 43, 57, Billy Paynter 59

It was a night that was going to see a clash of old Scottish friends - but unfortunately previous manager Paul Sturrock was a no show.

Sending a young squad to face two different Swindon elevens - Town eventually took victory with a 3-0 win.

"It's their prerogative to send whatever team they like," commented manager Maurice Malpas, "but, it's disappointing that the fans didn't get to see the Plymouth side they would have paid to see."

"Taking the positives from the game, though, it was a test of character which saw young Joyce get two goals, and Barry Corr play for 20 minutes."

New Signings

Maurice is still looking to add to his attacking options with a continued interest in Bristol City's right winger Kevin Betsy.

"Kevin came to have a look at the grounds tonight," Maurice added.

"It's over to Bristol City now. There is obviously a couple of other teams interested in him, so I hope he's gone away tonight happy with what he has seen."

Maurice was also keen to add that he is close to bringing Cambuur defender Kasali Yinka Casal to the County Ground as well before the season starts on Saturday.

"We're well down the road with the player in terms of getting the deal done," Maurice told us.

"I've put a call in to the chairman and we'll see what they're looking for - but it will be good to get this deal done now."

4 Days to go

"The boys are looking forward to the start of the season - and I just hope we can play with the determination and the enthusiasm that I know the team have amongst them."
