Remember Brian Howard?
Weekend FA Cup hero used to slot them in for Town too
Seeing Barnsley captain Brian Howard going cock-a-hoop after the scoring the winner at Anfield last weekend must have jogged a few Town fans' memories.
Not that the attacking midfielder was a prolific scorer for Swindon when he played here - but his first-ever FA Cup goal was a pretty memorable one.
Howard managing to find the net from the acutist possible angle - a corner - just before half-time when Town beat Sheffield Wednesday in the first round in 2004.
The first goal in what turned out to be a morale-boosting 4-1 demolition - and the second time in two weeks Howard had enjoyed putting one past his Yorkshire rivals.
The first coming on an October night many Town fans won't forget, when his sublime effort with just 12 minutes inspired a three-goal spree that led to Swindon recovering from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
For the record, Howard also made his debut for the Robins against Sheffield Wednesday in 2003.
Signed by Andy King, he went on to make 83 appearances for Swindon over 2 seasons, scoring 10 times in the process.
He left for Barnsley on a free transfer in the summer of 2005 after a contractural dispute.
Liverpool fans will no doubt be wishing he'd stayed. |
