Climbing in Swindon
We try climbing at the Link Centre
Indoor climbing is a great sport that people of all shapes, ages and fitness levels can enjoy.
And best of all we’ve got one of the best places to try it right here in Swindon.
“Climbing caters for all levels of climber, from complete beginner to competition standard," commented Mike Swann, Climbing Development Officer, Ridge Climbing Wall.
"We have over 120 climbs available up to 9m high, spread across four very different walls, we are able to provide a variety of different climbing experiences second to none."
So I decided to give it a go.
Within just a couple of minutes I was off and away. Mike having taught me the basics and got me harnessed in for safety, talking me through the moves that, although they looked simple, really meant stretching and using muscles I didn’t know I had!
It’s certainly not as easy as it looks, but, do you know what, really good fun.
The easy route to the top soon accomplished before moving onto to tougher climbs – including a go at the overhang! And the feeling every ‘climber’ enjoys – reaching the top!”
The climbing wall at The Link Centre is open 7 days a week with special sessions for beginners or more advance climbers. For those who fancy a go, full details are available on the Swindon Borough Council website or just pop into the Link and ask.
