Serious Assault In Highworth

A 23-year-old man from Highworth has been charged with the serious assault that took place in St. Michael's churchyard.
 
Richard Wright will appear in Court in Chippenham today charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
 
It is understood that a 22-year-old received neck wounds after being attacked with a bottle during an argument.
  
Police investigating attack in St. Michael's churchyard

Part of the normally quiet churchyard at St. Michael's church in Highworth was sealed off by Police this afternoon after a serious assault took place at approximately 2.20pm.

A Police forensic team is currently investigating at the scene of the incident, understood to be adajcent to the side entrance of the church hall.

Although serious injuries were sustained, it is believed they are non-life-threatening with Police confirming the crime was NOT a stabbing.
 
No arrests have been made and Police are appealing for witnesses. Call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
