Brunel Curry Kings

Rodbourne restaurant hosts Swindon175 fundraiser for Brighter Futures

Brunel Bhuna and Lamb Rogan Gooch were special dishes on the menu at the Swindon175 curry night in aid of Brighter Futures.

The fundraiser was held at The Curry Place in Rodbourne, which is the closest Indian restaurant to what was the former GWR Swindon Works, which first opened in 1841.

Pictured above are the Mayor, Councillor Eric Shaw, alongside (from right) Caroline Black and Paul Gentleman of Swindon175, Beetoshok Dee of The Curry Place (wearing a replica of Brunel's famous top hat), Ian Surtees of STEAM Museum and Noel Beauchamp of Swindon175.

Guests at the event also included former Mayors and those involved and who have helped in the year-long Swindon175 project.

"It's been fantastic to host the meal here at The Curry Place," said owner Mr Ali. "Brighter Futures is a wonderful local charity, and we're very proud of our location here in the Rodbourne community which still retains such a strong link with Swindon's railway history."

The curry night is just one of many events that has taken place in 2016 so far, as Swindon marks the anniversary of the birth of the town 175 years ago.

Events coming up include the naming of Sir Daniel Gooch Place outside the Swindon train station later on this month, and a special concert of the Swindon Symphony Orchestra at the STEAM Museum in November. Full details via the link below.
