Swindon golfer David Howell thinks the crowd's reaction to the European team will be a crucial factor in who wins the Ryder Cup, which starts today.
Howell, who starred in the victorious European team in the last two Ryder Cups, did not qualify for this year's event due to injury and loss of form.
But speaking on Sky Sports, the Broome Manor member said his team members' efforts last time the match was played in America, made all the difference.
"We really tried hard to connect with the crowd in the run-up to the matches at Oakland Hills," Howell said.
"We made a special effort to sign autographs and have our pictures taken with the fans, and I think the Americans really warmed to us because of it.
"The pressure of playing in the event is immense, and when you've got the crowd on your side it can be worth that extra point."
The Ryder Cup starts today at 1.05pm GMT, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
