Big Screen launch

Exciting times ahead for the town centre

BBC Big Screen launched at Wharf Green in Swindon
Big screen, big ideas:
BBC screen at Wharf Green
The BBC Big Screen has been a talking point for Swindon shoppers since work first began in the Wharf Green area in September 2007 - and now it is set to be unveiled.

On Friday 2 May, BBC Points West's Alex Lovell will be kick-starting a day of events - including a live TV broadcast, street dancing and interactive games - to officially launch this exciting new addition to the town centre.

Erik Burnett-Godfree, BBC producer in Swindon, said: "The Swindon Big Screen will broadcast the best of BBC TV, screen the work of independent filmmakers and cover local news and events round the clock."

It's the first permanent screen of its kind in the South-West of England and is expected to attract a lot of local people throughout the year.

Chief Exec Peter James
Peter James, Chief Executive of The New Swindon Company, who are in charge of the town centre regeneration, said: "The switch on marks an important milestone in our regeneration plans as Wharf Green is the first area to be redeveloped since we came on board in 2002.

"It is an opportunity for us to show the public that progress and improvements are being made in the town centre and for local people in turn to show their support for change in Swindon."
