Things are going along swimmingly
It's been a 40-year dream but hopefully by Summer 2008 Highworth will be enjoying a brand new swimming pool.
Thanks to a large grant from Sport England and fundraising efforts from the people of Highworth, work on a £1.4 million roofed complex has finally started.
All set for a transformation:

"It has been long awaited," said Phil Baker, Chairmen of the pool management trust, "we cannot wait for residents to enjoy swimming in a project that has suffered several failed attempts.
"Not only will the public enjoy a new heating system, it will be one of the only pools to have a three-metre diving facility in the south west."
One feature that hopefully won't be changing, however, is the stunning Ocean Liner mural, painted by Swindon artist Ken White, which has been a much-loved sight at the pool for nearly 20 years.
"We hope to retain it, because everyone associates the pool with it," added Mr Baker, "but plans for that area have yet to be finalised."

Currently, ground work is being completed, with a view to major construction work starting next month, with the roof (which will open at the sides to enable users to sunbathe in the warmer weather) being installed in September.
The entire project is hoped to be completed by June 2008.
