Swindon Borough Council have issued a statement on their gritting policy for tonight, and how they plan to manage their dwindling stocks of road grit.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said:

“There is a national shortage of supplies to grit roads and, like all local authorities, Swindon Borough Council is affected by this. We are carefully managing our current supplies and our gritting teams are working around the clock in challenging conditions to help keep routes clear.

"More severe weather is forecast tonight (Thurs, 5 Feb) so all A routes, which includes all main arterial routes and thoroughfares in the Borough, will be comprehensively gritted.

"In line with other local authorities B routes will not be gritted, as we need to preserve supplies in case of prolonged adverse weather. We are continuing to grit shopping areas and footbridges, in addition to refilling grit boxes.

Full details of the gritting routes, and any other changes to services, are available via the Council website, link below.
