Swindon Speedway Hammered
Season ends in semi-final disappointment for the Robins
Elite League semi-final
RESULT: Lakeside Hammers 56 Swindon Robins 33
Golden boy:
Swindon top-scorer
Leigh Adams |
A combination of poor trapping and a concrete-like track put paid to Swindon's dream of a second successive Elite League Final tonight.
The Lakeside Hammers convincing winners on a night Robins' team manager Alun Rossiter described as 'bitterly disappointing'.
Always behind, Swindon continued to chase their semi-final opponents off the line but eventually succumbed to the inevitable by heat 11.
Jurica Pavlic pulling out with sickness after just two rides, whilst Leigh Adams took the unsurprising position as top-scorer for Swindon, closely followed by Travis McGowan.
"It's hard to take because I genuinely thought we had a chance here tonight," a dejected Rossiter added.
"They got the jump on us from the start, and we never recovered.
"At the end of the day, they adapted to the conditions far better, and fair play to them for that."
Lakeside will now contest the Elite League Final against Poole Pirates, who convincingly beat Ipswich Witches in the other semi-final.
