Newport Street 

This is Newport Street looking West towards the Steam Railway pub.
 
You will notice that Gilberts is still standing on the left hand corner of the picture just as it has done since 1866.
 
Most of the other buildings visible in the old photo have since disappeared. Indeed the entire right hand side of the road has been demolished to allow widening of the road and a Co-op now stands in its place.
