Are We Born With A Fear Of Failure? 

 

Today my thoughts are being challenged by a book I’ve just started reading called What’s Stopping You? by Robert Kelsey.

 

Within the first chapter the author states that “fear of failure is innate and that however inflicted it is here to stay”. Does this mean that we are born with a fear of failure even though we have yet to experience life? 

 

How can we?

 

Until we experience a negative event or a feeling attached to something in life, we cannot develop a fear of non achievement or failure.

 

Robert Kelsey then writes about his own personal childhood experiences, things such as low self-esteem and poor confidence skills that created his lifetime fear of failure catalogue.

 

My opposition to innate fear stems from a belief that we teach ourselves to fear failure. Yes the environment we live in, from the time we are born until this moment, will have an impact on how we view the world.

 

However along the journey, and through our life experiences, we alone pull the fear of failure toward us. 

 

No one makes us have the fear except for us

 

We develop the thoughts and feelings associated with the negative situation. We choose to live with the fear of failure.

 

It really does return to choice. You can choose to rid yourself of the fear of failure. You can choose to let go of what is holding you back.

 

Your fear of failure is not innate. You create it. You can uncreate it. 

You have to choose to want to believe, feel, act and do things differently on your journey to banish your fear of failure for life. It does not have to stay with you as Robert Kelsey states!
