Too Many Cooks? Our Swindon business advice column with Gail Gibson
During a meeting with a colleague today we
discussed one of their clients who are in the process of looking at ways to
drive more traffic toward their business, with the end result being to attract
and convert more customers to become clients.
A decision was reached to
invite key people to propose how they can help make these changes happen.
Having a clear goal as to what the client wishes to achieve is the most
important place to start.
Without knowing what you want, you create
unnecessary obstacles as you embark on the right path for you. Through our
discussion it appears that the client has a rough idea and needs help advice
and support to reach their goal.
So the path they chose
started out smoothly as they listened to tenders from various companies. Much
information was supplied, proposals were submitted and decisions were reached.
Or so they thought.
My colleague then explained that very quickly
the tender meetings turned into information overload. There were too many cooks
in the kitchen all offering a spectacular dish with a variety of different
sides. Chaos entered the equation I feel.
Giving too many cooks an
opportunity to present their best strategy certainly led to the broth being
spoiled. Confusion reigned. Minds became cluttered because one person said this
and another said that.
Opinions were swayed as to the most effective
way forward and proven strategies were thrown out the window. It will be
interesting to see the client’s outcome when they do arrive at their decision!
Know what you want. Listen to advice from a
select few. Learn to see who has your best interest at the focus of a proposal.
Have knowledge of current practices that do work in business to help you
achieve positive and successful results.
Employ one executive chef to oversee your
kitchen and deliver your dish of excellence!
