When you reflect on your search result there is one main question to ask yourself - “How can my ranking be improved?” For your website to achieve better performance levels and to be more successful it needs to be ranked high on the Google platform, preferably on Page 1 or 2.
 
How can you achieve a better ranking?
 
Using Search Engine Optimisation or SEO you can organically improve your chances of being found on the first couple of pages. By organically, it means that you do not use Google Adwords or Adsense, in other words pay per click advertising, to promote your site to the various search engines.
 
SEO is all about utilising the right keywords or keyword phrases to maximise your ranking opportunity. Consider the most popular keyword terms or phrases for your business. For example if you are a Swindon based florist who specialises in hand tied bouquets of exotic flowers, what can you type in to search for your business? Suggested keyword search terms are: Swindon, Wiltshire, florist, hand tied, exotic flower bouquets.
 
How can you get your keywords and phrases right?
 
One of the best ways is to search for similar businesses on the web. Look at the highlighted keywords that appear and where the website ranks on pages 1 or 2 of Google. Click through to individual websites and see where the highlighted search terms are included in the web copy.
 
Some websites are written using an oversaturation of keywords. This is not favourable to search engines. These sites can be rejected due to this practice. Make sure you include a balanced spread of your terms to improve your ranking.
 
In addition and to enhance the promotion of your website, you can utilise the advertising streams available. Whichever type you choose keep a close eye on the pay per click charges and at what level you set your minimum rate per click. Costs can spiral out of control however you can amend your ad and the pay per click rate at any time.
