Rotary Revolution
New eClub launched for business people who can't make weekly lunches
There's a Rotary revolution going on in Swindon as this respected business organisation, which globally raises millions of pounds for charity each year, moves with the internet age.
One of the prime movers, Tim Mason, is also hoping this fresh approach to Rotary will attract new and younger members to an organisation whose motto is “service above self” and has around 1.2 million members worldwide.
“EClubs are an ideal solution to attracting younger, busy professional people and a wider, diverse membership into Rotary. What we are doing is using technology and a means of communication which fits into their busy lifestyles," explained Tim, who runs an education management consultancy based in Swindon.
There are already a handful of eClubs in the UK, and this latest initiative aims to set up a west country club stretching from Swindon in the east to Hereford, and from Clevedon in Avon to Worcester, coming under the umbrella of Rotary District 1100.
Weekly website meeting
EClub meetings are hosted on a unique website once a week through a chat room feature.
The club secretary will post material for weekly discussion which members can access at any time.
Tim said they were looking to attract members from all walks of life – men and women of all ages and backgrounds to use their time, talents, professional skills and energy towards improving their local community and communities around the world.
“As a social network, an eClub provides a perfect platform to raise awareness of issues and projects being run by Rotary.”
The Rotary Club in Swindon meet for lunch every Thursday at The Kings Hotel, Wood Street, Old Town, Swindon.
