Start Up Britain!

National roadshow aiming to encourage local entrepreneurs comes to Swindon

A national campaign aimed at aspiring businessmen and women comes to Swindon next week.

StartUp Britain aims to harness the expertise of Britain’s leading businesspeople to encourage entrepreneurship across the UK.

Founded by eight entrepreneurs and launched in March 2011 by the Prime Minister, the campaign is private sector funded and was launched in response to the Government’s call for an ‘enterprise led’ recovery.

The StartUp Tour aims to provide inspiration, resources and advice to thousands of budding entrepreneurs.

Wharf Green - Wednesday 22 July

The bus will be visiting Wharf Green in Swindon town centre next Wednesday (22 July) between 10am and 4pm and will welcome anyone who is looking for support for either starting or growing a business.

Business advisors representing leading small businesses including software company Sage, NatWest bank and the government-backed Start Up Loans Company, will be on hand to give advice and the bus will provide the perfect opportunity to network and meet other local entrepreneurs.

Micro workshops

There will also be a chance to attend micro workshops on developing business ideas, getting started, how to secure finance as well as handy hints on marketing and PR.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy and Regeneration, said: “We have a great track record of encouraging businesses and entrepreneurs to come to Swindon because of our fantastic location.

“But we also have a lot of talent in the town that we want to see flourish, which is why we were so keen to back the StartUp Britain campaign and welcome the bus to Swindon. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in setting up their own business to receive expert advice so they have the confidence to realise their dreams.”
