The Wombles are back!
After months of preparation, local businessman Gordon Harker and 'Team Womble' have returned from a four-day adventure in the Ramshackle Rally.
Gordon, manager of Swindon's Bang & Olufsen outlet in Wood Street, joined forces with friends to take on the challenge - driving 1,500 miles across Europe in aid of children's charity NSPCC.
And with 97 teams crossing the starting line in Calais earlier this week, the boys were elated to finish in fifth place overall.

Swindon businessman to drive 1,500 miles in £100 car 21 August 2008
Gordon Harker, who owns audiovisual specialist Bang & Olufsen of Swindon, has teamed up with three friends to enter the Ramshackle Rally - a 1,500 mile adventure across Europe.
The route will take the intrepid foursome through France, Italy, Monaco and Spain - and, barring breakdowns, should take four days.
Rules state that cars must not cost more than £100, so Gordon and his friends have invested in an ancient Ford Mondeo estate with more than 100,000 miles on the clock.
Gordon said: "It's a crazy fun challenge but the serious side is to raise as much money as we can for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children which is a really worthy cause.
"I honestly don't know if the car will make it so I'm taking my Bang & Olufsen mobile phone just in case there are any emergencies!" |
