Train to gain!

We explore a new route with National Apprenticeship Week

Mel gets a hands on experience for Apprenticeship week
A hands on approach:
Mel learns just one of the
skills taught on a
Apprenticeship course
When someone mentions apprenticeships you may well get an image of a builder's mate or a trainee plumber, but in reality they've come a long way.

And with this week celebrating the first National Apprenticeship Week - so in true SwindonWeb style, we went out to see exactly what an apprenticeship course entails.

I went to meet Sharon Teesdale at Eastcott Vets, where I learnt the basic skills required to work in customer services.

From answering the phones and stocking shelves, to greeting customers and handing out prescriptions, my day was packed out with the daily chores of a veterinary assistant.

In just one day I realised how much there is to learn – and found the hands-on approach really helped me understand the role.

After my day in training, I went back to the classroom to see what basic skills I would be taught to assist my position in the workplace.

And with new skills up my sleeves, SwindonWeb had better watch out – I may have found a new career!
