Erika Roe Supports Brunel Fundraiser

Famous 80s streaker launches Bra the Brunel cancer charity campaign

It may have been over 30 years ago since she hit the headlines, but with the Rugby World Cup in now in full swing and the Brunel Shopping Centre about to raise money for a breast cancer charity, there was only be one person to launch it - Erika Roe!

Ms Roe, now 58, made front page news in 1982 for her now infamous topless streak at Twickenham during a Five Nations game.

And now, after a life somewhat less exhibitionist running a farm in Portugal - and sadly losing her sister to the disease - Erika has helped to launch a charity breast cancer appeal and bra exhibition in Swindon’s Brunel Centre.

The shopping centre has teamed up with Against Breast Cancer (ABC), the charity that funds pioneering research into new treatments and tools for earlier diagnosis, and will be collecting used bras to raise money for the charity.

Celebrity bra exhibition

The focal point for the centre’s Bra the Brunel campaign will be a month-long exhibition of actual bras that have been donated by a myriad of famous names including Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne, Honor Blackman, Twiggy and Barbara Windsor.

It also includes the famous fur bikini top worn by Swindon’s own Diana Dors at the Venice Film Festival in the 1950s.

Ladies of Swindon are being asked to take their unwanted bras to the special donation bins that are now in place around the shopping centre.

For those willing to make an extra donation The Brunel is asking for £1 coins to be taped into each cup.

“An extra pound in each cup would be great!” said Jane.
