Why we think you should visit Balula’s Delicatessen and coffee lounge

 

The minute you walk in to the shop you’re faced with fresh produce of farmhouse cheeses, smoked meats, olives and speciality bread, oh and how can I forget the vast selection of Belgian chocolates.

 

Plus the warm welcome you receive from the friendliest staff makes you question whether you’re still in Swindon.

 

 

Balula’s on Wood Street (which opened just before Christmas), has transformed what formally was Nine Clothes Shop and is a great spot to dine-in or take-away.

 

 

It has a light and airy café where they serve coffee and lunches, including freshly made ciabattas and baguettes at very reasonable prices.

 

 

For example a Chorizo, tomato and pesto baguette with side salad is £5.85 or a selection of olives, balsamic onions, Boquerones, sweet peppers and Rose Harrisa is £2.95.

 

You can tell they’re all passionate about food and want to share their obsession by encouraging the customers to taste their cheeses and olives, something I was of course happy to indulge in!

 

 

What’s probably the most difficult thing about visiting Balula’s is how to decide or what to purchase from their large and enticing display of jams, mustards, chutneys and other bottled goods.

 

When speaking to Nick about the new business, he was delighted with the response they had so far.

 

“I live in Swindon and always thought you had to travel to Bath or Bristol to visit a place like this.

 

 

"I wanted to open a place to show my passion for food and offer a place that you can come and have a coffee or buy locally sourced produce.”
