"They had that little bit of quality when it mattered" was the succinct summing up by Danny Wilson as Fulham proved a hurdle too much for Town in the third round of the FA Cup.

 

A strike by Bobby Zamora just after the quarter-hour the difference on the scoresheet as Swindon failed for the 14th consecutive season to reach round four.

 

Cutting edge

 

The Reds battled hard to match their premiership opponents in front of nearly 6,500 travelling supporters - and, at times, had the better of the game.

 

But in the absence of cup-tied Charlie Austin upfront, the Robins' best chances fell to Danny Ward - who headed weakly into the arms of Schwarzer in the Fulham goal - and Simon Ferry, who blazed wide.

 

The biggest cheer coming when Dave Lucas saved a second-half penalty from Andy Johnson to keep Town in the game, but without a cutting edge going forward one goal was always going to be enough for Roy Hogson's men.
