RESULT: Hartlepool 0 Swindon Town 1
Swindon scorer: Austin 22
It was sweet sixteen for Charlie Austin as Town head for Leeds next week eyeing second place in League One.
The Robins are now only one point behind the former runaway leaders, who lost today at Norwich.
"It's very close at the top, no denying that," commented Danny Wilson, "but no one here is getting carried away."
"Yes, we deserved it today, because Hartlepool threw everything at us at the end. But it could have easily been very different."
Paynter return
The only goal of the game came mid-way through the first-half, when Austin, at his opportunist best, slotted home.
The striker glad for the chance, with the majority of the game bogged down in midfield on what was a poor playing surface.
Billy Paynter made a welcome return when coming on as a second-half substitute when he replaced the hardworking loanee Nouble.
The extra height of Town's leading scorer proving far more useful in a defensive role as Swindon held on in the last fifteen minutes.
The win lifts Town up to 4th.
