Swindon head to the Valley on Monday with a one goal advantage thanks to the finishing quality of Charlie Austin and Danny Ward.

 

Town's makeshift strike-force - thrown together after Billy Paynter was ruled out by a hamstring injury - put Swindon 2-0 up before Charlton grabbed an unlikely reply.

 

Charlie Austin's header his 20th of what has become a dream season for the former non-Leaguer - Ward's a rifled low drive after being set up by 40 yard run from Simon Ferry.

 

And had substitute Vincent Pericard not hit the post with a diving header in injury-time, Swindon would have been two clear.

 

Charlton's reward for taking large parts of the game to Swindon, a brave header from Deon Burton after Robins' keeper Dave Lucas hesitated to clear a long-ball.

 

"It was a brilliant spectacle," commented a positive Danny Wilson, "and I'm very pleased with the result. Very pleased."

 

"Who knows, 2-1 might do us a few favours. 3-1 may have left us thinking we've already done enough."
