Swindon 2 Sheffield Wed 1Npower League One
RESULT: Swindon Town 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 Swindon scorers: Austin 24, McGovern 74 Sheffield Wednesday scorer: Morrison 30
NO SWTV POST-MATCH FANS' VIEW TODAY - sorry, technical difficulties
All the hard work in getting this game on was worth it, as JP McGovern scored against his old side to seal the points.
In the only match to beat the weather in League One, Charlie Austin got Town fans warmed up with a well-struck finish after 14 minutes, only to see Clinton Morrison level matters on the half-hour.
Robins' goalkeeper Phil Smith lucky to be still on the pitch after fouling Darren Potter in the build-up to the goal. An injury sustained in the tackle led to him be substituted seven minutes later.
Anyone's game
With the equaliser Sheffield Wednesday looked good value in a contest where both teams knew the importance of a win - Town desperate to escape fourth from bottom; Wednesday with the chance to go second.
So when Charlie Austin went agonising close on the hour and Wednesday hit the bar, it looked like a draw may be the fairest result - only for JP McGovern to settle it.
The former Owl steared a shot past the Wednesday goalkeeper with twenty minutes to go before playing his part as Swindon hung on.
"A big thank you to everyone who helped make this game happen," commented Danny Wilson, "it's been a fantastic effort and this is a massive three points for us."
