Austin turns down Ipswich for Burnley

Charlie Austin has failed to agree personal terms with Ipswich, despite the Swindon board accepting a bid for the player.

 

Talks at Portman Road appear to have ended at the eleventh hour after Burnley made a counter offer for the striker.

 

SwindonWeb understands the 21-year-old preferred a move to Southampton in the first instance but now looks attracted to a south-coast connection with new Burnley boss Eddie Howe, who as Bournemouth manager initially tried to sign Austin in 2009. 

 

Blackpool, Millwall and Hull City all tabled bids for the former Poole player.

 

In 2005, then Swindon top-scorer 'Super' Sammy Parkin also chose Ipswich in a similar high-profile move away from the County Ground, but never reproduced the form that saw him score 67 goals in 124 league games as a Robin.
