Fitton resigns in wake of relegation - Wray takes over 

 

Andrew Fitton has stepped down as the chairman of Swindon Town FC in the wake of the club's relegation to League Two.

 

At a press conference today at the County Ground, it was announced that director Jeremy Wray will take over the role on an interim basis while the Swindon board look to restructure for next season.

 

 

Fitton led a take-over of the club in 2007 that included Wray and financier Martin Arbib as part of a consortium with a five-year plan to bring Championship football to Swindon.

 

His record as chairman includes Town's play-off loss at Wembley in 2010 and the appointment of three managers, Maurice Malpas, Danny Wilson and current boss Paul Hart.

In a statement, the former chairman said:

 

"I am hugely disappointed with our relegation to League 2. I therefore feel the time is right for me to step away from my role as Chairman, to draw a line under the frustrations of this season and to recharge my own batteries.

 

"I am extremely grateful to Jeremy for stepping in at short notice, I am sure the Club will benefit from his input."
