Swindon's Carling Cup success in mid-week was a distant memory as Town crashed to their fourth league defeat in a row.

 

Second-half goals from Shrewsbury's strikeforce of Terry Gornell and Marvin Morgan overcame Swindon's deserved first-half lead.

Matt Ritchie was again on target with his second well-taken header of the season to put Swindon ahead after 25 minutes. 

 

But in almost a carbon copy of Town's performance at Cheltenham, Paolo Di Canio's team soon ran out of ideas.

 

The inevitable first Shewsbury goal came 12 minutes after the break, when Gornell fired home from the edge of the box following a poor punch from Phil Smith.

  

The second arrived from a well-worked overlap move on the left from which Lionel Ainsworth delivered the perfect cross for Morgan to head the winner.

 

"Even when we were ahead I wasn't happy," a disappointed Di Canio commented.

 

"We lacked heart when we needed it and I feel we have taken a step back."
