Alan Connell struck twice as Town stunned Shrewsbury to go top of League Two.

 

The striker came on as a second-half substitute with Swindon 1-0 down and playing like a team Paolo Di Canio "didn't recognise".

 

But after surviving a near-certain penalty decision - and sending off for McCormack - just after the break, Connell brought the County Ground to life with a typical poacher's effort when the keeper spilled a Matt Ritchie shot.

 

The goal changed the game, as the once confident Shrewsbury sat deep and allowed Swindon to press forward.

 

The inevitable winner again arrived via Connell, who fired in from close range after Rooney hit the post to make it seven wins in a row.

 

"Amazing is a word I use a lot," Di Canio admitted, "but in the second-half we were that. We played like a team who deserve to be top of the league."
