Swindon are one point from promotion after Alan Connell's turn-and-shot broke the dead-lock with six minutes to go.

 

But this was a bitter-sweet day manager Paolo Di Canio after it was announced just before kick-off that his mother had passed away on Friday evening.

 

The Town manager, who wore a black armband throughout the game, left the County Ground immediately after the final whistle to be with his family in Italy.

 

And in a day of drama, captain Alan McCormack was a late absentee after attending the birth of his child, giving Paul Caddis the chance to make his first start for 6 weeks.

 

Swindon now just need a draw at Aldershot on Tuesday to ensure League One football next season, with a victory also potentially securing the Championship if second-placed Shrewsbury fail to win.
