Wolves win 6-5 on penalties after extra time

 

Just like in 1980, Wolves edged past Swindon in a dramatic League Cup encounter.

 

And should the Premiership side again go on to lift the trophy next year, they'll have Gordon Greer to thank, after the Town defender hit the post in a sudden-death penalty shoot out.

 

That after both sides had chances to win the tie in extra time after the game finished goalless.

 

"It was a cruel way to go out," said a bitterly disappointed Danny Wilson, "but that's Cup football I suppose.

 

"We had some fantastic support from fans travelling up to cheer us on and I think we more than proved to everyone that we were a match tonight for what are a top flight team."
