Who Do You Think You Are? Stirling Moss?!
Well, yes, I am actually, old boy. Racing legend at Skurrays in Swindon
One of the greatest drivers of all time made a flying visit to Swindon last week.
Racing legend Sir Stirling Moss, who came second in the F1 World Championship four times in the dangerous days of the 1950s -
and who survived being in a coma for 4 weeks after a major crash in 1962 - visited Skurrays in West Swindon.
Moss, 84, made his appearance at the dealership as an ambassador for Safe & Sound, a car warranty business.
First truly professional driver
In a career that spanned 16 years, Moss won 212 of the 529 races he entered, including 16 Formula One Grands Prix for the likes of Mercedes, Maserati, Vanwall & Lotus.
He also won arguably the toughest and fastest race of all time, the 1955 Mille Miglia, which he triumphed in a Mercedes after covering 922 miles non-stop over normal Italian roads from Rome to Brescia - including cobbled streets - at an average speed of 98mph. The event was stopped in 1957 for being too dangerous after multiple driver and spectator deaths.
