Great War Britain: Swindon 

1914-18 remembered in new book launched today

 

Great War Britain: Swindon tells the full story of the town’s incredible role in the 1914-18 war, which started exactly 100 years ago today.

 

And in an event held this evening at the new Christ Church Community Hall in Old Town, author and local historian Dr Mike Pringle was proud to sign the first copies.

 

"It's been an incredible team effort to produce it," Mike told us.

 

"So many people have helped me including Mark Sutton, Francis Bevan, Katherine Cole and all the staff at the Swindon Local Studies Library. And I can't thank them enough."

 

  

With 160 fully illustrated pages, this timely book commemorates the hardships of Swindon men in battle, and celebrates the lives of those holding things together back home.

  

Dr Pringle was joined by local dignitaries including both Swindon MPs, Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson, at the launch.

 

The book is available to buy at the Swindon Library, WH Smith & Waterstones in the town centre.
