No Stamp Of Approval For Highworth Post Office Move
Garage move from market square location proposed - WATCH VIDEO - HAVE YOUR SAY
Highworth Post Office may be moving from its location in the historical market square to a garage on the outskirts of town if the Postmaster gets his way.
A six-week consultation is now underway after the change was proposed in a letter to local residents and businesses.
Currently located in Sheep Street, just off the market square, the Post Office will close and then re-open inside a new Budgens Convenience store currently being built at the Shell Garage, formerly Simpsons, on Swindon Road.
Extended opening times are promised as well as extra services, but the idea has been largely met with disapproval by those live locally and regularly visit the town centre to shop and work.
"Highworth high street is struggling as it is, without the Post Office now moving out of town. It's ridiculous," said one person we spoke to.
"Let's just close all the shops and turn them into estate agents," said another, "that'll really help bring people here."
The Public Consultation on the proposal continues until 10 October 2014.
The proposed month for the change is January 2015.
