Ambulance in Swindon |
There was no time to waste for the crew of the brand new Wiltshire Air Ambulance this afternoon - its first day officially on duty.
A serious collision on the A417 near Swindon required an immediate air lift for those injured to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon for treatment.
The Bell 429 helicopter is the world's newest and most advanced light twin-engine helicopter in service, and is the first of its type to operate as an air ambulance in the UK.
Incorporating yellow and the distinctive Wiltshire 'green', the helicopter will cost around £2.5 million a year - funded solely from charitable donations.
