Oscar Winner!
Swindon's Maisie Sly stars in Hollywood as her film scoops an Academy Award
It's certainly a night Maisie Sly won't forget in a hurry - walking the red carpet in Hollywood & then.... oh yes, winning an Oscar!
The six-year-old from Swindon, who is profoundly deaf, took the lead role in the film, The Silent Child, the moving story of Libby who is taught sign language by a social worker played by Rachel Shenton.
And it was Rachel, who also produced the film, that took centre stage when receiving the award for Best Live Action Short Film and using sign language so Maisie in the audience could understand it.
"I made a promise to our six-year-old lead actress that I'd sign this speech," Rachel, announced.
Earlier on, Rachel walked the red carpet alongside the film's young star Maisie, who is from Swindon, and also fiance Chris, who directed it.
