New divisional commander for Swindon police
Top cop:
Paul has big plans for Swindon |
Policing in Swindon is promised to be strengthened this year, with Wiltshire police welcoming a new divisional commander.
Chief Superintendent Paul Howlett has held positions within the Crime Investigation Department, including Head of CID, after joining Wiltshire police as a uniformed officer in 1981, and is now in charge of operational policing across the town.
His arrival in Swindon comes at an important time, with the town centre regeneration expected to really take shape this year.
It comes as no surprise then that Paul is putting a lot of his efforts in to crime prevention in the area, and has already formed strong links with Swindon Borough Council and other important organisations.
Paul said: “My immediate priorities will be to continue reducing and detecting crime, citizen focus and the consolidation of neighbourhood policing to help further tackle the issues which are important to local communities.
I am also very much looking forward to meeting and working with local Partners in Swindon.”
And community policing is definitely at the top of his to-do list, with a third of police funding now being allocated to it.
SwindonWeb will be putting Paul Howlett on the hot seat in the next few weeks, so if there's anything you would like to ask him, email us at
