Blue Peter - And here's one I went round earlier!
It was a task that definitely deserved a Blue Peter badge - and we were there to capture it.
Andy Akinwolere taking a driving lesson around Swindon's Magic Roundabout this week.
The children's TV presenter, who has only been behind the wheel for six weeks, bravely venturing onto our most famous roundabout system to record a special piece for BBC favourite, Blue Peter.
An adventure the game learner-driver described as "... one of the craziest things I've ever done!" "It was wicked," Andy added as we caught up with him taking a break from filming, "I had a couple of near misses but managed to get round OK. "Just as long as I don't have to take my driving test here, I think I'll pass!" In a piece due to be broadcast in March, Andy's exploits in a Blue Peter branded Ford Focus - under the tutelage of the AA Driving School - included manoeuvring round the Magic Roundabout at least five times while describing the whole event on camera.
An experience made all the more exciting by the commentary of the self-confessed roundabout fanatic, Kevin Beresford, who was on-hand to give tips and advice - and post-event analysis - on Andy's performance. "He did very well, indeed," Kevin said. "The Magic Roundabout is the white knuckle ride of all roundabouts, so for a learner driver to survive it like he did is absolutely brilliant!"
Needless to say, we presented Andy with one of our special 'I survived the Magic Roundabout T-shirts' to celebrate his astonishing feat - an item the presenter said he would wear when the Blue Peter programme is aired on BBC1 next month. |
